Oh what a day .... easier traveling August 28, 2008
Usually, bad things come in threes .... If a light bulb burns out, you can expect 2 more to go in short order. If the dishwasher springs a leak, you can expect something to go wrong with the hot water tank an the lawnmower. And on and on.
Rarely, if ever do good things come in threes ............ but yesterday was kind of like that for me.
To preface the 3 good things story let me give you some background ~ We travel a lot to see the grand kids and I always take my "Transplant Book" that I received from the transplant center as it has tons of vital, critical information in it. This book weighs a lot, I'd like to say 40 pounds, but in reality it's probably 7 or 8 pounds. Added to that is my big old laptop, where I keep all of my vitals and tons of other transplant info) and last but certainly not least, my meds for as long as we'll be gone, plus a couple of days. It makes for a very heavy backpack to carry through airports, but hotel elevators, etc.
So, I decided to make a travel "transplant book", with copies of various things, sort of like a "Cliff's Notes" version. Yesterday, after lunch we decide to run some errands and I have a fist full of papers that I want to copy for my new book. It's also raining like crazy (remnants of tropical storm Fay). Soon after we leave I see a little convertible for sale on a used car lot. I've been looking for months but couldn't find one that was decent, low miles, that I could afford. But, this one is calling my name. We stop look/drive/make offer/haggle/agree on price/sign loan form and leave. (The dealer will call me, probably tomorrow)
We stop at Office Max and make the copies and I decide to venture into Best Buy to see if they have any of these little laptops, like a ASUS, or an HP-2133, etc as I've been looking for one that I could afford for months. Low and behold they have a new Acer model, and at a price that I couldn't refuse. The checking account is a bit lighter, but out the door I go with a new, little 2 pound laptop. As soon as we walk out the door, the car guy calls ~ everything is a "go" come pickup the car.
We drive back to the car lot and sign all the papers, give him a check, and I walk out the door on what is probably the coldest, wettest day of our summer ~ the proud owner of a convertible. As I'm walking to my "new" car, my cell rings ............
It's my transplant center ~ I've been accepted into their volunteer program and I will be working on the transplant floor one day a week, speaking with the transplant patients. I'm in total awe.
It's still raining as I got in the car and thanked God ....... A laptop I had been seeking, a car I had been seeking and a chance to help others ......... what more could I ask for ? |
