|Been away awhile|
November 6, 2017
Been through a few changes while I have been away. Been focusing on getting my diabetes under better control so I finally could have my much-needed shoulder surgery. I succeeded in September and underwent arthroscopic surgery on 9/14. Fortunately, I didn't need a rotator cuff repair, which minimized my time in a sling to only 3 weeks. It was followed by 4 weeks of physical therapy with another 4 weeks to go. The arm is showing a great deal of improvement already in spite of the stiffness and the occasional pang from the healing tendon of my right bicep. If things work out, I am hoping to have the other arm checked and we will see where we go with that.
But since the surgery, my mood has been improved overall and I have been getting out more. I am also looking into working one of the major comic conventions next spring in DC. I have a friend of mine that is the lead for VP registration and he has offered me a spot and a place to stay, which covers two of the major expenses of going -- room and the entry fee. I have had friends work/run other major geek conventions -- Otakon in Baltimore for one. No one has ever asked me if I wanted to help out before so I think this might be an interesting experience -- plus potentially a chance to meet a few famous people like Dave Bautista, Michael Rooker, and Karen Gillan from Guardians of the Galaxy. It should be interesting.
Well, I will try to get back here a little more often. I haven't really felt like writing much except in my paper journal, but after this weekend -- attending a local con where I met some really interesting people as well as made some local author contacts -- I am feeling more inclined to journal again. Maybe I will have something to actually share other than just simple day to day drivel. I want to be able to think and express myself again. It is something that I have felt that I lost in recent months and years.
