|The Contractor Follies, Episode Two|
January 16, 2008
When we last left our heroine (that would be ME, since this is my diary), she had tabled (pardon the pun) her plans to remodel her kitchen, after the would-be and misnamed contractor, the so-called "Meticulous Matt" had failed to live up to his moniker, and left our heroine (me, again), in the lurch.
Though now more wary and less enthusiastic, she is once again venturing into the remodeling world. Thanks to MyPoints, where she filled out a questionnaire that promised 'pre-screened' contractors. Sure. I'll bet the contractors purchase the lists, and the only 'pre-screening' done is to make sure the contractors' checks are good!!
But in any event, at least I'm not plowing through the phone book. Tonight, Bob from KuZtom Kitchens (I hate cutesy spellings) came by. I liked him well enough. Tomorrow night, another contractor named Robert is coming by. He sounded about 14 years old on the phone.
I got another call tonight from another company that 'pre-screens' contractors. If nothing else, I'll have several estimates to choose from at least.
I have to admit I'm not as excited about the whole thing as I was last year. Seems sort of anti-climactic now, and almost not worth all the trouble it's going to be. And if I don't get an estimate I can afford AND a contractor I like and can work with, I won't bother to do it at all.
