|As The Days Go By|
November 13, 2014
My birthday yesterday was quiet, but pleasant. I made sauerbraten and red cabbbage, and Mom felt well enough to make the potato dumplings, so we all had a really good dinner.
After dinner, I drove over to Ellie's and brought her some sauerbraten, and had a visit with her. She gave me a card and some cash. I drove over all by myself.....not such a huge feat, really, as she lives just around the corner. But it was my first solo trip. I came home just as it was getting dark, and managed to drive past the house and had to turn around (but I only missed it by 3 or 4 houses....so not that bad for a first try!!
Mom didn't feel up to baking chocolate cake, but Brother went to the Portuguese bakery and bought 3 sfogliatelle, my favorite Italian pastry, for a birthday treat. Mom found a birthday candle, but no matches......so I held the unlit candle while they sang, and then blew it out.
Brother gave me a mini loaf pan for my birthday. (I think he actually bought it for himself, but wrapped it for me just so I'd have something to open).
I got birthday cards from Carol and Jonathan, and Lois phoned last night, as did Karen. I also heard from the woman at the moving co.......barring anything unforseen, I should be getting my stuff on SUNDAY!! The driver will call on Sat with his e.t.a. I'm just hoping he gets out of town BEFORE the snow hits there.
So, that was my birthday. As birthdays go, it wasn't bad at all. In a few days, hopefully, I'll have my stuff, and I'll be able to start unpacking and settling into my new life here.
I just got off the phone with my car insurance co. It's very bizarre....in order to register my car in FL, I need to have proof of insurance. In order to obtain said proof of insurance, I need to register my car. So, when I decide to go register it, I first have to call the insurance co, tell them when I'm going, so they can fax the proof over to the DMV. Once the car is registered, then the insurance co will send my new insurance cards. Pretty convoluted. And even though I'm planning to stay with the same insurance co., I have to reapply for insurance because it's a different state. They're pretty expensive, too......much more so than in NY. I'm wondering if I should just change companies?? Wonder if we could get a multi-car discount if we added mine to Brother's policy? Hmmmmmm......something to consider......
I swear, I am never moving again......it's too damn much work! (wait till I get my stuff and have to unpack!!!)
