|Happy Birthday, Mom!!|
June 10, 2016
She's 79 today, and still going strong. She shuffles a little when she walks now, and tires more quickly than she used to. But she still have more energy than I do! She's in good health physically and mentally, and I'm grateful to have her....even though she sometimes drives me crazy!
I think her hearing may be going a little....the TV seems louder than it used to be, and I have to speak louder than I used to. But I notice I can't hear as well in a noisy room, either, so I can't really bitch about her hearing.
Ellie was supposed to join us for dinner, but she called around 3 to say she wasn't feeling well (tummy upset, and general malaise), so she begged off. We're all disappointed, but more worried that she's all right.
I packed up some eggplant and some scones for her, and if she's up to it, I'll bring them over tomorrow.
In a little while, we'll have Mom's birthday dessert. She requested scones with strawberries and whipped cream. I baked the scones this morning, and cut up the berries. Now I just have to whip the cream before dessert.
I cut up some cantaloupe this morning, too. It's a variety called "Athena". It is the best cantaloupe I've ever had.....incredibly sweet and juicy. I may make a fruit salad tomorrow with that, strawberries, blueberries, and maybe a peach. Wish I had some ricotta to eat with the fruit. Oh well.
I changed my sheets this afternoon, too. My friend Carol's half sister-in-law (with whom she was fairly close), passed away, so Carol called for solace (and free therapy. Toward the end of our call, I said, "That'll be 5¢, please". Sometimes, I wish I could charge her!). Between the cooking, the sheets, (and brushing Nougat), and everything else, I was pretty busy today, and now I'm tired.
I just came out of the shower (it feels so good to be clean and looking forward to sleeping in clean sheets!), and now I'm going to go watch the rest of "Jeopardy".
Tomorrow is laundry day, and I have more lectures to watch for the linguistics course. I'm in the middle of reading a novel, too, and tomorrow is Sat and my favorite radio programs are on, so I'll have a busy day tomorrow, too.
