Another hot, sunny day here. This morning there was a nice cool breeze, but by afternoon the nice cool breeze had turned into a hot dry wind, and carried with it the smell of smoke. There's a huge fire up in GA, but I don't think the smoke or smell would reach this far. Ellie told Mom that there's a fire burning in the next county. I suppose that could be what we're smelling. When I was outside with Nougat a little while ago, it was making me choke and making my eyes dry and stinging.
Had a nice day today. Sat outside with Nougat in the morning while it was still comfortable to be outside. Called Carol and we had a nice chat. She had lunch with her daughter yesterday and they had "a wonderful time", so she was in a good mood. That was a nice change from her usual sturm und drang.
Came inside to watch "The Chew". It got interrupted for some inane press briefing from Washington. What do I care about what's on Trump's social calendar for next week? I'm not invited. As for the press asking questions: seems to be a waste of time, since whoever is spokesperson for the gov't only evades the questions anyway. Total waste of time.
Tim called shortly after 2, and we talked for an hour or so. Always enjoy talking with him.
Then Mom and I got dressed and went out to Denny's for dinner. Had our usual Bourbon Bacon Burgers (mine with fries, Mom's with grilled zucchini and summer squash). We split a Turtle Sundae (with all chocolate ice cream of course, though Mom did agree to the caramel sauce along with the hot fudge, instead of insisting on all fudge)
From there, we went to the produce market for some more strawberries (and picked up some bell peppers and romaine, too). Finally, we stopped at Dollar General and I picked up a Mother's Day card and a birthday card for Ellie, and an 80th b'day card for Mom. Dollar Tree has a better selection of cards (and nicer ones), but these were OK.
When we got home, we had two messages. One from Ellie, and one from Lois. Mom called Ellie back, and then I called Lois. We only talked a half hour or so, but she had some good news, and wanted to share it. She finished the edits on her book. I'm so happy for her. She worked really, really hard on it. It's a reference book for archivists. I was one of her readers (even though I'm not an archivist, I feel like I could become one, thanks to reading her two books).
Tonight Mom and I will watch a few more episodes of "The White Queen". I think we have 4 left. We watched 3 of them last night. That constitutes "binge watching" for us. More than 3 episodes, and I zone right out. Although, she and I watched multiple episodes of "Mad Men" at a sitting, sometimes staying up till 2 am to finish a season's worth. Ah well, we were younger then. *snicker*
We're watching "The White Princess" concurrently with "The White Queen", and I admit sometimes I get the series confused. Entirely too many Henrys, Richards, Elizabeths, and Margarets wandering around. The costumes and sets are magnificent.
Tomorrow I'll do the wash in the morning, and maybe go over to Ellie's for a little while in the afternoon to wish her a Happy Mother's Day. Her niece goes over on Sunday, so I won't. I'd rather go on a day when she's all alone.....and break up the day for her. Maybe Mom and Nougat will come along (if Mom's off the phone with Enza).
When we got home this afternoon and walked into the house, I noticed how stuffy it was. I don't know if Mom noticed, but I put the thermostats down to 81°. I might turn it up a degree when we sit down to watch TV later, but for now, this feels quite comfortable, especially here in my bedroom. If she's chilly, she can always put on a sweater or cover up with a sheet. I can't make myself any cooler without changing the a/c.
Think I'll go get a glass of ice water and go watch the news till it's time for "Jeopardy'. Time to kick back and relax for the evening.
