Mother's Day (How's That for an Original Title?)
May 14, 2017

Just got off the phone with Rick's Mom. She and his dad are doing OK. His father (who had a stroke a number of years ago) actually got on the phone and said "Hello". He sounds so much like Rick that it brought me to tears. His Mom and I always end up weeping......but I'm still glad I call her.

Mom and I spent Mother's Day being busy bees. She decided today was the day she was going to clean and polish the parquet floor in the family room. It's a huge job, cause the room is enormous. She's been wanting to do it for a month or so, and with Brother out of town, and the weather cooperative, today was the day.

I complained about her doing it on Mother's Day, but she said she'd feel much better once it was finally done, and there was no point in her sitting around 'relaxing', when she knew that job was hanging over her head. Once it was done, she said, she'd be able to really relax.

So, while she tackled the floor, I kept Nougat contained in the other part of the house. That wasn't hard to do, cause I was cooking, and she (unlike Panache, who eschewed the kitchen), was happy to 'help'.

I broiled a bunch of bell peppers, and cut up onions, more peppers, and potatoes to bake with the Italian sausage. Once the peppers were broiled, I stuck the pan of sausage, etc., in the oven, and then cut up the strawberries for the Belgian Waffles.

When the strawberries were ready, it was time to peel, seed, and marinate the peppers. By then, it was noon, and Nougat wanted to go out. Went outside with her for a while, then came in, made some chicken salad for lunch, and then went and sat down for the afternoon.

I was hoping to feel like cooking again this afternoon, but no such luck. Making waffles isn't that big a deal, but then you've got all the clean up to do, too......and I didn't feel like it. Mom didn't feel like it, either. So we've ordered subs from Hungry Howie's. (45 mins to an hour, he said. And the delivery charge is outrageous......$2.50!! I could've gone and picked them up.....but eh. Who wants to get dressed?) Anyway, they should be here soon. YUM.

I promised Mom she'll have waffles and berries tomorrow. "Think of it as an extended Mother's Day celebration", I told her. She thought that sounded good.

Hope everyone has had a lovely Mother's Day......including all the dads. My dad used to insist on being wished a happy mother's day, saying that "After all, I made it possible". So we'd counter by wishing Mom a Happy Father's Day, telling him that she made it possible, too.

Much as my mother sometimes (OK, sometimes more than sometimes) makes me crazy, I love her, and consider myself very fortunate to have had 2 loving, caring parents. And while I may not be the biggest fan of living in FL, and living with Mom can be a challenge......I'm glad we're together.

Ah.....doorbell. Dinner has arrived!!!
