Finally, the work day ended! All was peaceful and quiet, until, after lightly tip toeing all the way down to the very last room on the unit to answer a call light that seemed to be being ignored. The poor dear woman had awakened and was shocked that she had had to awaken herself and questioned where were her nurse assistants? Once re-orientated that it was only 3:30 in the morning, she smiled and said how glad she was that she had not been forgotten, after all, and asked that she bee the first to be assisted with Morning Care!
Stopping by to see how the 1:1 situation was coming along, lo and behold if two nurse assistants were not asleep as the man with behavioral issues was creeping past them....
"GIRLS....GIRLS.....GIRLS!" They verified that they had not been knocked unconscious by the man with issues. They each admitted how they had fallen asleep and then resumed their argument as to who's turn it was to attend to the other residents. Once, again, I resolved their issue within seconds. At least, I was more confident now that each was aware of MY expectations! The gentleman was assisted back to bed, once he realized that it was too early for breakfast, after declining some soda crackers.
I had been distracted with doing Monthly Renewals. It was good that I left what I had been doing, and, still feeling somewhat dejected because I was not able to share a Thanksgiving dinner at home, was surprised to see that sometimes, just sometimes, there may still be a turkey or two, still in the hay! I had not missed out on everything, after all! Shortly afterwards, the Supervisor making early rounds was elated to find everyone so attentive and alert to the Patients' needs! How glorious! |
