|New House New Life|
August 12, 2017
Our last few weeks in this rented house. Our new house nears completion. Drove over there a few days ago with Khim who is going to design a vegetable garden for me. She's a professional landscape architect who now works for herself and happens to owe me money for a creative writing course she couldn't otherwise have afforded to complete. I like this kind of barter.
We have space for flowers and lawns and fruit trees and veggies. I have plans to grown vines of colourful climbing plants all over the wire fencing (didn't want a solid wall because it would block sunlight). I will have passionflowers, thumbergia,
rangoon creeper, bougainvillea.
Inside, the walls are painted, the wooden floors installed. No kitchen yet - I called in the kitchen shop for that on our way out of the town. William is putting on a walk-in wardrobe in the master bedroom next week.
This is a town I don't know at all well yet. I don't know how I'm going to feel about living there. Need to explore. I'm ready for a change anyway.
Meanwhile I'm almost done with editing the latest collection of stories - theme is broadly education but such a variety of entries including one story about how a young man became a confidence trickster. problem is that my co-editor lives in the US and is incredibly buys so we communicate by email and Skype but it ain't the same as being able to sit in the same room with a cup of coffee and really discuss.
