'Supernatural' Reveals More Returning Guest Stars for 'Clip Show'
April 16, 2013

Supernatural is ending season 8 with some treats for the long-time fans. The 22nd episode, "Clip Show," will, as the name suggests, include various memories from the show's past.

As previously reported, Taylor Cole will return as Sarah Blake, an art dealer who appeared in one episode way back in season 1. Now we have news on two more "Clip Show" guest stars, and they might be even more obscure than Cole.

Graham Wardle and Cindy Busby are also scheduled to appear in the episode, airing May 8. Who are they, you may ask? Well, they're two people who've been on Supernatural.

Wardle played Tommy Collins, the victim the show's second episode, "Wendigo." He was captured by the titular creature and held in a cave, but Sam and Dean, on their first real case together after the pilot, saved him.

Busby played Jenny Klein in the season 7 episode "Shut Up, Dr. Phil." That episode is most notable for featuring guest stars James Marsters and Charisma Carpenter as a married pair of bickering witches. Kenny was the male witch's assistant who was targeted, but was saved by the brothers just in time. You may remember her for her shocked "There were tiny, beating hearts in my cupcakes!" rant.

I'm not sure what rationale, if any, there is behind bringing back these minor guest stars from past episodes. Perhaps it's because Wardle and Busby both had regular roles on the Canadian drama Heartland, so maybe it was just easier to get them. Whatever the reason, as a hardcore fan who writes about the show every week, I appreciate the show's devotion to its history.

To be fair, the CW doesn't specify that the actors will play the same characters they originally did. In recent seasons, actors with minors roles from early seasons have returned as completely different characters. But iven the nature of this episode, it seems logical that they will be reprising their roles.

For even more about what you can expect from "Clip Show" (and to assure you that it's not actually a clip show consisting entirely of clips from past episodes), here's the official synopsis.

From the CW: "Sam and Dean reunite with Castiel. Digging through the Men of Letters' files, they stumble upon an undiscovered film which could be the key to the third trial. Metatron enlists Cass to mull over problems at home. Meanwhile, Crowley digs into Sam and Dean's past."

Based on this, it seems like the "clips" featuring past characters could be Crowley sorting through the boys' memories, trying to find something to use against them. That could mean trouble because, let's be honest, there's a lot of baggage there.

Supernatural airs Wednesdays at 9pm on the CW.
