|The Only Good Thing about Hurricanes|
September 19, 2003
Izzy gave my household a nice little present today. All of our workplaces were closed due to storm damage. The office complext for my company was without power and even their back-up generator went down. They aren't even sure if they will be open on Monday. Nothing like free vacation time. With the time I have scheduled, I am going to get a heck of a lot of down time, which after the past few months is thorougly appreciated.
Fortunately, we were spared the worst of the storm around here. Baltimore, Arlington, Annapolis, and a lot of other places have flooding, power outtages, and the like. Around here, we have a a bit of debris, a few downed trees, and the power flickered for about 30 seconds last night. We were lucky, and I am certainly thankful for it. A lot of people weren't so lucky.
I wish I could say that I did more with my day. However, the only constructive thing that I accomplished was working with Tracy on the household finances. Slowly but surely, she is getting the hang of it -- at least the mechanical portions. She still trips about the planning part of it. I think once the actual bookkeeping gets to be habit -- I think she'll calm down enough to get a grip on it.
We're talking about hitting the Maryland Renaissance Festival tomorrow. T is actually wanting to get some of her christmas shopping done there -- primarily for her her nephew and E's little guy. Plus, it is something that we do on a yearly basis - and this happens to be Pirate's Invasion weekend. My only concern that it will be fairly mucky because of the storm -- although it might lessen the turn-out a bit as a side benefit. It would be a nice way to spend a Saturday -- particularly since I missed going with Satan last weekend. Plus, it'll be good practice for Celtic Fest next week.
