My computer is in the process of driving me nuts. It's been twitchy for the past couple of weeks, getting particularly bad the past couple of days. I've seen the great blue screen of death more times than I care to remember. Seeing it crash really sucks and my temper is a little frayed. It's been so pissy that I've been pricing parts to upgrade. If I can't get the Ol'Beast up and running, I can get a hotter new rig for about $1000. Hopefully, I don't have to go that route.
Being a gamer without a working rig is like an addict cut off from his drugs. While we have some IT professionals here, I'm not one of them. My interest is purely as an avocation and as a form of stress relief. Fragging a few pixilated enemies helps with my blood pressure and keeps me from going postal. So, I'm getting the shakes. Plus, its frustrating when you can't fix your "fix" and I don't need that with the work has been.
I suppose some might consider my gaming/computer tinkering habits a childish thing - particularly for a 35-year old man. As I see it, every man has his "toys" - be they hot cars, guns, tools, or whatever - that they tinker with in their free time for entertainment, socializing, and competiveness. Mine just happens to be gaming pc's and playing with/against my online chums.
