|Book 20, I am not your perfect Mexican daughter by erika sanchez|

I finished this quick reading book. At times it felt like a piece of fiction aimed at a teen or young adult audience. But I appreciated the insights into teen thinking and culture, particularly from a Mexican-American point of view. An interesting exploration of old culture conflicting with the new, poverty in a land of affluence, love suffering up against a constant exposure to fear both in memories and by the hour in lives lived along the edge of risk. A book about dreams and those who forge forward to keep working toward them despite great odds and also what life becomes when dreamers are broken and give up.
