|The Baking Elf Arrives|
December 16, 2002
It's beginning to look a lot like Christmas. Which, i suddenly realized is next week. Why did i still think it was 2 weeks away??
Not that it matters...i'm all ready. Today, i was in the mood for baking...so, i made the Butterballs when i got home from work today. And then, after H & i came home from dinner (Pizzeria Uno...yum!), i made Grandma's Date Nut Bars. They're in the oven now.
i also filled the container that that nice mom had filled with soup for me. i put in some fudge and some butterballs. (wanting to refill the container was the main motivator for me to bake today)
Now all that's left to make on Saturday is the strufoli. That's a big project....making them, rolling them, frying them, honeying them....and i really want to go see "Lord of The Rings: The Two Towers" on Sat. (i'd like to go Wed when it opens, but i have to work. FEH)
If for any reason i don't get there Saturday (ie we have too much snow and i won't drive), H has promised to take me on Christmas Eve Day, since we're both off.
He was off today, too, and when i came home from work, he was in the basement wrapping presents *smile*. Now our tree is surrounded by presents (not hard to do with a 4ft tree!), and it really is starting to look and feel like Christmas. Even Barsky got excited to see all the gifts...and promptly went and knocked down all our stockings, trying to get into his! (i put the bone back in, so he could have the fun of getting it back out. He doesn't want to chew it...just play at getting it out of his stocking. So cute!!)
While i was making the butterballs, H put on some Christmas music, sat on the living room floor, using Barsky as a pillow, and read the Wall Street Journal, occasionally reading bits to me. The snow was falling lightly outside, the windows were steaming up from the heat of the oven, the music was lovely...it felt so cozy and Christmas-y.
Ahh...timer is going off...time to check the date bars....
