|Gettin' Ready For Tea // The Bees' Knees|
August 26, 2007
I got up at 8:40 this morning to start getting ready for tea. Here it is 10:10, and I've already got all the sandwiches made, plated, and in the fridge. I heated the mincemeat on the stove and let it simmer for a half hour or so. I have to defrost the phyllo cups, fill them with the mincemeat, and plate them up. I also need to shower and wash my hair. And of course, I need to bake the scones! (I almost forgot about those!!) I'll need to go shower soon, so I'm not rushing around before I have to go over to Patti's. I told her I'd try to be there by 12:30. (Tea is at 1:30)
Right now, though, I'm taking a little sit-down. I've got Fogelberg's "Greetings From the West" blasting away (What can I say? I needed a little 'inspiration' this morning...getting up so blasted early on a Sunday!)
After I post this, I'll check on my webkinz (which necessitates changing the screen resolution. Feh). and then I'll go shower.
I'll be back after tea to write all about it!
The Bees' Knees
Patti wanted to host this month's tea party in her orchard in her backyard. We prayed for good weather (we got it). She was concerned about there being too many flies. There weren't.
But what we hadn't counted on (and what may be what kept the flies away) were the swarms of yellowjackets!! Of course, with our theme being 'orchard', everything we served had fruit in it...even the chicken salad sandwiches were spread with mango chutney. And the yellowjackets loved everything.
A couple got into the jam. One was doing the backstroke in Sherry's cup of tea! The lemon cake was particularly attractive to them. Fortunately, the only person who got stung (twice no less) was yours truly. And I wasn't swatting at them or anything. I was attacked without provocation!
After the sandwiches, we served the scones....and when the bees started making for the jam, we all fled into Patti's teeny tiny porch and finished our tea there.
Everyone raved about the food and complained about being stuffed. Which means I did my job. (NObody leaves my table hungry!!) I'd made plenty of food, so we made up 'care packages' for the two members who were unable to attend due to recent and upcoming surgeries.
We had a good time, in spite of the invasion of uninvited 'guests'.
I helped Patti do some of the dishes, and then she helped me carry home the few leftovers. Now I'm going to get the trash out to the curb, call Mom and Dad, and sit in the lawn chair and keep Patootie company for a bit...she's been outside by herself all day, poor thing.
I guess you could say our tea party was an Orchard BEE Party!!!
