|Shoppin' 'N Cookin'|
August 24, 2008
This morning I got up and headed over to the Farmer's Market. I didn't have a lot of cash on me, so I was very good and only bought things I needed: beets, radishes, peaches, swiss chard, an eggplant, tomatoes (large and grape), and, OK, I did splurge on a pint of blackberries.
I passed on the yummy almond pastry and coffee that I usually get. And I came straight home.
When I got home, I started cooking. I roasted the beets, cooked up the tops and the swiss chard. While the beets were roasting, I cleaned the chicken I'd defrosted yesterday, and got it ready to go in the oven when the beets came out.
When the chicken was done, I had a piece for Sunday dinner, along with one of the roasted beets.
Then I decided what the heck, I'd go ahead and make eggplant parmigiana. I'm glad I did, because I had no sooner put the breaded eggplant slices in the oven to brown, than the phone rang.
It was Adele at work. Whoever was supposed to work in the Discovery Room today hadn't shown up, and would I be available?
If I'd had a little more notice, or if today had been like yesterday, where the only productive things I did were clean the bathroom and take a 3 hour nap, I probably would've said yes.
But since I was in the middle of cooking, and cleaning the kitchen, and since I hadn't showered since Friday afternoon, I told Adele I was sorry, but that I wouldn't be able to make it. As it was, I wouldn't've been able to get there before 2:30 at the earliest, and they close at 4. I didn't see any reason to go in just so I could clean up the room!
I'm glad I decided to make the eggplant, or I would've felt guilty for saying no.
After I finished the eggplant, I did take a shower, just cause I was feeling sweaty and warm from being in the hot kitchen all morning. I feel refreshed now.
Tonight I'm going over to Karen's to let her dogs out and feed them dinner. She went out of town yesterday to help her friend Jan buy furniture. Scott's going out there this afternoon with the guy from Karen's office that Karen set Jan up with, so they can all have dinner together at Jan's. (are you following this?)
Karen let Panache out Friday night so I could go to Ellen's straight from work, so I offered to let the boys out tonight.
But right now, I think I'll make myself a nice cold beverage, and relax. Maybe watch a movie. I'd love a nap, but if I take one, I'm afraid I won't sleep well tonight (I didn't sleep well last night because I took one), and I have to work tomorrow.
I spoke to Dad today (twice so far). He seems in good spirits, and so far, he hasn't had any nausea from the chemo. Mom said he seems a little weary, and had dozed off on the swing. It's not surprising, and I hope that's the worst he suffers.
