It's 3 months today since we got Nougat. I think we'll keep her. (even when she's being beastly, she's pretty damn cute)
I also realized that it was 30 years ago today that I started working in the day care center that I ended up working in for 11 years. It doesn't seem that long ago, but it was. I started out as the Assistant Director/Toddler Teacher. The last 3 years I was there, I was the Executive Director. I missed being the Toddler Teacher.
One of the parts of the job I liked was teacher training. I enjoyed seeing the staff members get better at their jobs. Especially since day care staff are overworked, underpaid, and very often not well trained.
I liked most of the parents (except for a few who were pains in the ass). I loved the kids of course (even the ones who were pains in the ass, cause they needed it the most)
What I hated about the job was the damn bookkeeping. And dealing with the Board of Directors. And especially dealing with the Church from which we rented our space.
Rick and I worked together there for a number of years. I offered him a job as a long-term sub, cause I didn't know anyone else to ask. He subbed on and off for awhile, traveling from his hometown and staying with my ex and me. Finally, he was given a permanent full-time position....as my co Toddler Teacher. We had a blast together.
I have lots of great memories of us working together. "Shall we take the toddlers out, Rick?" "Yes....with an Ouzi!"
I also met Karen at the day care. I was on the committee that hired her as Executive Director. (The woman who hired me quit after a year. I'd only been there 10 months, and didn't feel ready to take on being Director at that point)
We had a good, stable staff, and not too much turnover (remarkable for a day care). I loved being there.....right up until the day I realized I couldn't stand it another minute.
But I don't reel like remembering or writing about that today. I'd rather remember the good parts. Like meeting Karen, and getting to work with Rick every day.
Well, Nougat's had her dinner, and is clamoring to go outside. So much for the shower I just took! I took it because I'd been sitting out in the sun with her for 30 minutes, and I felt baked from the heat. *sigh*
