Back to Routine (Grocery Shopping)
June 8, 2016

Went to Publix today. Forgot how much I enjoyed that month or so of no grocery shopping. Today wasn't bad, it's just such a pain to have to go.

They seem to no longer carry a product Mom likes. At least it hasn't been on the shelf for the last couple of weeks, so she went to customer service to special order it.

The clerk asked how many she wanted. She said "Four". "Four cases????!!!", he gasped. "No, no....for JARS!", Mom corrected him. He asked his co-worker, "How many jars come in a case, anyway?" The co-worker couldn't recall if it was 6 or 12. Mom said, "Well, if it's 6, I'll take the whole case."

We'll see. They took her name and number, and will call when it comes in.

After grocery shopping, we came home, and put all the crap away. I got to suck meat. Fun!

Brother said that after we left, he had his bedroom door open, and Nougat went in and lay on his bed. Guess she didn't want to be alone.

The vet's office called while we were out, to see how Nougat did after her vaccinations yesterday. I tried to call them back, but could never get through. I finally tried around 3 pm, only to get their recording. They close at noon on Wed and Sat. Well, no wonder I couldn't get through.....I called close to 12. Whoops. I wanted to know how her fecal sample was. I'll try again tomorrow.

I tried calling Ellie a few minutes ago to invite her over for dinner for Mom's birthday on Fri. She didn't answer the phone. She might've been out, who knows.

I'm making Mom's favorite: eggplant parmigiana, a tossed salad and Italian bread (we bought that). For dessert, we're having strawberry cake with whipped cream. Ellie doesn't like strawberries, so we'll top hers with some canned peaches or something.

I'll do most of the cooking tomorrow. Eggplant parmigiana, like lasagna, is always better the next day, when it's had a chance to set.

Tomorrow is Nougat's adoption anniversary. A whole year. We'll have to think of something special to do for her.
She'd be happy with treats and a new rawhide bone, what does she know from anniversaries?

My right eye's been bothering me today. Feels like there's grit in it. I try not to rub it, and even resorted to using Mom's eyedrops. That helped a little, but it still feels like there's something in there. I don't think this is anything serious, just annoying (and hopefully temporary). I have an appointment with the eye dr. later this month anyway.

Can't think of much else to write about. Started watching a PBS program on my Kindle last night, called "The Great Fire". It's OK. The girl who played Jon Snow's wildling lover in Game of Thrones is in it. One of the actors looks familiar, too, but I haven't quite placed him. I watched the first 2 episodes last night, and have 2 more to go. It's not the greatest PBS program, but it was better than anything on last night.

Mom got a birthday gift basket/box from Ellie today. And in the box was a small pair of scissors, and a note from the company saying: "Part of providing the finest in luxury is knowing that the gifts are easy to open and enjoy. Please accept these complimentary scissors to assist you opening your gift."

I thought that was clever and thoughtful, till Mom pointed still need to open the box the gift was shipped in before you can use the scissors that are IN the box.

We both got a giggle out of that. It's true, but I still think the scissors are a nice gesture.

Well, I guess that'll do it for me. Nougat just jumped up on my bed, so I will close here and take this opportunity to give her a quick brushing.
