|Mostly About Nougat|
October 27, 2017
Sitting outside cause it's a beautiful day. A little breezy, but sunny and mild. Nougat had to poop and now we're going to stay out for awhile, till it's time to make dinner. I'm making shrimp with tomatoes, spinach, and feta. I'll make rice for Mom and Brother.
I did the dusting today, and brushed Nougat. I even cleaned her ears. She's very tolerant of having them cleaned, unlike Panache who used to run away if I so much as said the word "ears" to her.
She was prone to ear infections (caused by lying in her "dirt hole" under the shrub in the backyard), and hated when I had to put the drops in. I don't really blame her, I hate water in my ears, too.
But Nougat doesn't seem to mind. I don't squirt the cleaner directly into her ear. I squirt some on a cotton ball, and clean her ear thst way.....I squeeze some of the liquid from the cotton ball so it goes into the ear canal, but it's not as much as if I squeezed it from the bottle itself. Which is probably why she tolerates it without fussing.
She got me up at 5:15 this morning to go pee. She was very good about coming back in when she was done and going back to bed. Even let me sleep in till 9.
Last night Brother came home after 10. Noogie was sound asleep. He was very quiet when he came in so as not to disturb her. She didn't wake up till he came into the family roo and said something to Mom. The sound of his voice woke Noogie up. She was still groggy, but she hurried over to him, tail waghing, and excited to see him. She greeted him with kisses and wanted him to pet her. As soon as she was satisfied with the greeting, she grabbed a toy and ran to the kitchen so he could give her her nightly cup of coffee and her final"top off" (a handful of dog food in her dish).
When we have dessert in the evenings (usually around 7:30, immedistely following "Jeopardy"), Brother's job is to give Nogat her coffee and her top off. On nights when he works late, Mom and I will have dessert and give Nougat her treats, but we don't give her her coffee or her top off. She waits for Brother for those.
He is also responible for giving her "the bowl" after dinner, which consists of a few table scrap, served to her in an old Tupperware bowl, used just for that purpose. If he's not home for dinner, no bowl is presented. She seems to understand that, and never looks for it if Brother isn't home.
She also knows when it's Jeopardy time, and will go lie down and sleep. But as soon as the final Jeopardy music starts to play, her eyes open. She may stay where she is, or sh might get up and go sit in front of Mom and stare at her, waiting for Mom to say "It's time" (for dessert). Then she grabs a toy and runs to the kitchen. If we don't get up and follow her quickly enough (in her opinion), she'll run back, grab a different toy (or a shoe), and try again.
She has her routines, and her little ways......and don't try to change them!!
