Louie and his wife are in the living room. I'm hiding outside with Nougat. She greeted them, and then I took her out so she wouldn't keep pestering them. We'd just finished doing the dinner dishes when the doorbell rang. It's not that I don't like them, or don't want to visit, but I'm not exactly dressed for company. I'm in a rather ratty old, oversized flannel nightshirt. Decent, but not publicly presentable.
Today I baked a double batch of scones at Mom's request. Also had her request, I made Swiss Bliss for dinner. I got the recipe from Lois years ago. It's a slow cooker recipe, but I decided to experiment and try pressure cooking it. (I could've slow cooker it in the Instant Pot, too, if I'd wanted). I tweaked the recipe a tiny bit by adding a half cup of beef broth (water with some Better Than Boullion added), just to be sure there was enough liquid for it to pressurize properly. I set it for 30 minutes, and hoped for the best. And that's what I got!! It was perfect. Meat was tender and there was plenty of flavorful broth for dunking bread.
Have I mentioned lately that I LOVE my Instant Pot? (The split pea soup I made the other day turned out great, too)
Today we were back to warmer weather. In the 70's. Supposed to stay in the 70's this weekend. I just hope it doesn't rain tomorrow afternoon when we have to go to Ellie's funeral. It turns out Brother is flying to NY tomorrow, and I'm going to have to drive to the church.
I've never been there, let alone driven there. It's up past the dentist, so the other day, after our appointment, Brother drove there to show me the way. As he was driving, he was trying to explain the route, and every time he'd start to say something, Mom would pipe up from the backseat and interrupt him. I finally told her that I could not listen to both of them and concentrate, and if she expected me to drive to the funeral, she was going to have to shut up. She did, but I'm not 100% confident about finding my way.
Have I ever mentioned that I HATE driving?
Looks like our company left. Nougat asked to go in, so we're in. I don't know where Mom and Brother are. He's probably in his room. Mom could be in the garage. It's peaceful in here right now. I can hear the crickets (or tree frogs, or whatever they are) through the open windows. The sunset was lovely. I saw most of it while we were outside. It starting to get a little cool in the house, so it's time to close the windows. Tonight we're planning to watch the Olympic Opening Ceremonies. They're never broadcast very well......too many commercials (more commercials than program it feels like), but still, it's the Olympics, and as Mom sagely pointed out, "I may not live to see the next one." (Mom is nothing if not practical)
