|The People In The Neighborhood|
June 12, 2018
Went grocery shopping this morning. Didn't have too much to get, but a few things were on sale and we needed milk.
We have new neighbors across the street. The previous tenants were renters and they trashed the place. They moved out almost 2 years ago and the owner spent over a year fixing it up. Then he sold it. The new owners moved in a couple weeks ago. We watched them unloading a U-Haul in the pouring rain. Mom noticed some kids.
I was talking to Paul yesterday evening, and he told me they have 4 kids and moved here from Colorado. He also knew the parents' first names, where the husband works, and one of the kid's birthdays! He's turning out to be the neighborhood *yenta*.
I wanted to bake chocolate chip cookies and bring them over to the new family, but Mom mixed that idea, saying, "People are funny about homemade food nowadays." She wanted to buy a box of store brand bakery cookies . I didn't feel that was very special. So, I got a chocolate chip cookie cake and had the bakery write "Welcome" on it. It would've been a lot cheaper to bake the damn cookies, but I think this was a nice gesture. We brought it over when we got home from the store.
We met one of the daughters and her grandfather, who's here from Missouri helping them get settled. The rest of them had gone to the store. I suspect we will meet them eventually, although so far, they've been both invisible and silent. Surprising for a family with 4 kids.
Meanwhile, Paul visits the back fence daily. Sometimes he brings a few homegrown blueberries. One day he brought us a papaya! He said they'd been on sale and he bought more than he could eat. One day he brought us a papaya!
Last night, I gave him a piece of Mom's birthday cake 🎂. This morning he returned the container and the foil pan we'd given him the chicken in when he mowed our lawn. I told him he didn't need to have returned them, but since he did, we can refill them sometime! As he was leaving, he said to me, "Your mom is a sweetheart." I replied, "Yeah, we like her."
Not much else going on. Still treating Nougat's ears. They're looking better and she's amazing about having them cleaned and medicated.
Enjoyed the Tonys on Sun night. Loved the opening and closing numbers. Wasn't impressed by Robert DeNiro's outburst. He's entitled to express his opinion but there's a time and a place. This was neither. And just spouting profanity (which got bleeped anyway) isn't going to change things in any positive way. That's my 2¢ worth anyway.
