|Summertime, and the Livin' Is.........|
June 21, 2018
This morning was beautiful. By noon, when we had to bring Nougat to the vet, it was hot and muggy. By 2 pm, we were having a thunderstorm. It lasted till 3:30. It let up for a bit, then we had another thunderstorm. Now it's 6 pm. The lightning and thunder have stopped, but it's still raining. So much for the first day of summer.
Nougat did well at the vet's. She wasn't keen on going with the tech, kept looking back at us, as if to say, "Don't leave me!" She was glad to see us waiting for her when she was finished. The vet said they cleaned gunk out of her ears, but can't be sure whether the infection is completely gone or not. She moved our appointment up from Tues to Mon, when she'll do another cytology and determine whether Nougat still needs treatment. My gut feeling is that the infection isn't gone. If it were, she wouldn't have changed the appointment. But we'll find out for sure on Mon.
Nougat, who is usually not disturbed by storms, was a little upset by this afternoon's. She came and lay right by my feet, and now and then would reach out and put her paw on my foot. She is such a sweetie. 💖
I don't generally comment on current events, but having spent most of my working life with children, seeing (and hearing) those poor children separated from their families and incarcerated has been appalling. Is that really what our country is about? What it's become?
I don't think trying to enter the country illegally should be condoned, but tearing families apart shouldn't be either. I can't help wondering how dreadful life must have been wherever they are coming from, that they are willing to risk not only their own lives, but their children's. I can't imagine any parent doing that if they weren't desperate.
I don't have any answers. I don't think there is an easy one. (Mom says, "Put them on a bus and send them back over the border. If they get their papers, they can come back legally." Could it be that simple?) But I have to believe there is a better way to handle things than what is currently being done.
Hate to end on a bitter note. Looks like it's finally clearing up outside. Guess that's as good a place to end this entry as any.
