|4th of July (How's That For a Creative Title?)|
July 4, 2018
Mom and I are watching "1776". We saw it last week, but it's a 4th of July tradition, and TOM thoughtfully put it on demand, so we can watch it when we want. (They're broadcasting it again tonight at 10, but Mom doesn't want to stay up till 1 am).
Brother is making Juicy Lucys stuffed with bacon and blue cheese. We're also having not dogs, baked beans, and corn on the cob. Yesterday I made pickled onions and sweet pepper relish for the hot dogs.
I tried to make ice cream this morning, but the freezer door wasn't completely closed last night, so the bowl got partially defrosted and couldn't stay cold enough to churn. I was planning to make chocolate chip ice cream as a surprise for Brother. Oh well. I put the mix back in the fridge, and will try again tomorrow, when the bowl has had a chance to refreeze.
Paul brought us some kale from his garden this morning. It isn't like any kale I've seen before. It's got broader, smaller leaves, and is tender enough to eat raw. It still has kale's bitterness, and I think it would be nice mixed in a salad. We'll cook up part of it and bring some over to Paul.
We had a brief sprinkle this morning. Now it's hot and humid. Nothing new there.
Not much else to say, either. Hope everyone has a good 4th of July.
