Things That Made Me Happy Today
July 13, 2018

It's funny how so many little (and not-so-little) things can brighten a day.

For example: my clamp-on umbrella. Now I don't feel like I'm being flash-fried or sundried. (And I get UV ray protection, too!) To add to my comfort (or at least diminish my *dis*comfort), I now have a necklace fan as well. Mom saw it on Amazon and bought it for me. It's amazing that just that bit of air blowing on my face and neck is such a relief. It's even purple!

I'm not suddenly going to start loving the heat and humidity, or even liking it. But the fan and umbrella make it at least marginally more tolerable for when I *have* to be out there. And that makes me happy.

Another thing that made me happy today: Tim called. I always enjoy our conversations, cause we can talk about everything and nothing, and no matter how much time has elapsed since we last spoke, it's like no time at all had passed. We pick up right where we left off.

Speaking of friends, that make me happy, we're having some over on Monday! ConnieK (formerly Mama Blue on OD) and her husband are coming out for lunch! Her husband and son remodeled our kitchen 2 years ago, and she hasn't seen the finished project.

We don't get together as often as I wish we could, as they live a distance away. So this is a real treat. We already planned what to make for lunch.

We don't get to entertain much, especially since Ellie died. She was the only person who ever came over regularly to visit.

As soon as I told Mom they were coming, she got excited about the visit, and then said, "We have to clean!" (We just dusted and swiffered *yesterday*). But now we have to clean all the appliances and cabinets (which we wipe down nearly every day anyway).

I told Connie to bring her white gloves! I'm really glad they're coming. They are such nice people, and on the two other times we've gotten together (to discuss the kitchen plans), we had such a good time. This time won't include "work", so it should be lots of fun. And we get to show off the kitchen! I still get a little thrill every time I go in there to cook. I love working in there. I love how cheerful and bright it feels, (even though it's not a large kitchen), how practical and accessible things are, and how much actual workspace there is. I love the kitchen now (I loathed it before, btw. Dark, no counter space, low ceiling. It was claustrophobic)

So, I'm feeling very happy right now. I've got my fan, my umbrella. I get to show off the kitchen, and best of all, I get to spend time with a good friend!

I wish my new glasses would get here in time so I could show them off, too. But so far, no word. I was told 5 - 7 days, And I figure the order didn't go in till Monday afternoon, so I won't be surprised if they don't come till Tuesday. But I've got my fingers crossed, just in case.

And you know who makes me happiest of all. Nougat, of course! She's lying here on the floor, contentedly (and enthusiastically) squeaking her ball in time to Brother's radio show. The sound of his voice coming over the computer speakers gets her quite excited, and she expresses it by squeaking her ball. Guess she wants to be part of the show!

Uh oh.......I think the squeaker died. She tried squeaking it a few more times, but all it did was wheeze, so she shoved it away with her nose in disappointment. She's too funny!

And that's my happy day today!! 😀😀😎😁
