of madness
August 25, 2006

Unwittingly in a previous post I quoted Jack Kerouac, about people who are mad. I've never read any of his work, however I have heard the quote before so it must've lodged deep in the psyche and resonated well within my soul. There's something to be said about madness-it defines us. I think all of us are. Some just show it in varying degrees. Let us not confuse madness with anger, Oh no! Madness is defined as
1)the state of being mad or insane
2)senseless folly
3)frenzy or rage
4) intense excitement or enthusiasm

The British use it more appropriately than we, Americans. In this day in age we've forgotten that we're all a bit off. I don't mean real mental illness, more of the unique personality quirks that define who we are. We struggle to fit in and we try diligently (especially when we are younger) to be the same as every one-often times thwarting and squashing the very things that make us individuals. But some of us realize how damn dull and boring it would be if we were all the same, and we embrace our inner dorkness. Robin Williams said "You're only given a little spark of madness. You mustn't lose it." Wildly talented and hilarious, I believe the guy knows from where he speaks.

I tell MB that I love him madly when he says he adores me. Because well the intensity is insane sometimes. {I really am a fortunate woman}

I'm not sure how this thought fits into this entry but to quote #2 {whom I'm sure got it from some movie}: "In this world gone mad, we will not spank the monkey-the monkey will spank us." Which translates into mom speak as, some days you're the bug, some days you're the windshield.
