|oh what a tangled web|
November 10, 2011
Remember that kid I mentioned a while ago? The one who said I was unprofessional? Well, I gave him a rather large paper to complete being he wanted the class to be an honor's class for him. So I made his assignments longer and more difficult.
Okay, well, the reason he got huffy in the first place is because of the peer reviews. He felt like it isn't fair to be graded on something they're not so good with. Be that as it may, I think they are really valuable. But, I actually do see his point that it's not helpful for a higher level student to exchange papers with one from whose skills aren't as advanced. I get it...tough shit.
Because of this tiff, I said he was to take his paper to the campus writing center and have them check over it, give him feed back, etc. The email that they send me will stand in the place for the per review and he'll get points for it.
He's lied to me. He told me he went and they weren't helpful to him at all. He said the girl helping him "didn't even look over my works cited page," and "she told me different information about in-text citations than what you have given in class." He says he cannot remember her name. I've received NO email from the writing center in regards to him.
He wanted to meet with me this morning, but when it came time he said he had something to attend to and skipped out on me.
Brian said, and I agree with him, to ask again for the girl's name who helped him, just so I can talk to her and find out why there's a disparity in what she told him and what I'm teaching. The point is to put all of this back on me, so that I look like the one who has screwed up, and to play dumb-not let him know I know he's lying. I don't think he went to the writing center. In my opinion, the smug little bastard probably feels like he's too good for that.
I think that he had to skip out to legitimately get his ass to the writing center and get some help. I'm not sure about that thought. We'll see. I've saved the emails about this topic, and if necessary, I will use them as ammunition. And, even though I didn't get an email from the writing center (and I have a lot of them regarding other students) I'm going to go there tomorrow and see if it was somehow overlooked, but I seriously doubt it. First off, I want to cover my ass, and secondly, beat the little bastard at his own game.
It's just not adding up...
In other news...doing good, lots of papers to grade, conferences and an evaluation next week, then the whole week of Thanksgiving off.
51 days until Iowa
